Objectives:

Between 1988 and 1990 Lynchmere Parish Council was instrumental in undertaking a Parish Appraisal and Parish map whose objectives were stated as:

· To record some of our past and more recent history before those who are able to remember it are gone.
· To find out what people who live in Lynchmere value, such as favourite trees, buildings, open spaces and commons; these were to be marked on a new large scale Parish Map, to establish what people liked and would like seen done.
· To look to the future and see how we could help promote our identity and keep our community together.

This Parish Appraisal gave rise to the Lynchmere Society which was established with the express objectives of:

In the area comprising the Civic Parish of Lynchmere in the County of West Sussex , which includes Hammer and parts of Camelsdale and the neighbourhood thereof which shall be hereinafter referred to as “the area of benefit”:

(i)   To promote high standards of planning and architecture in or affecting the area of benefit.
(ii)  To educate the public in the geography, history, natural history and architecture of the area of benefit.
(iii) To secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of features of historic or public interest in the area of
      benefit.
